The Perfect 4-Day Kohler Buddies Golf Trip (Sample Itinerary)

A sample 4-day Kohler buddies golf trip itinerary for a group of eight — Whistling Straits with caddies, Blackwolf Run, where to stay, and an option to add Sand Valley.

Updated June 2026·5 min read

This is a sample itinerary we’d build for a group of eight friends, mixed handicaps, over four days at Kohler — with a note on extending to Sand Valley. Treat it as a template; we’d tune the courses, caddies, and pace to your group. The point is the shape: links golf, caddies, and the Straits as the centerpiece.

At a glance

  • Group: 8 friends, handicaps ~6 to 22
  • Length: 4 days / 3 nights at Kohler
  • Base: The American Club (or village lodging)
  • Rounds: 4–5 across Kohler’s courses, caddies on the Straits
  • Getting there: Fly into Milwaukee (MKE, ~1 hour) or Green Bay

Day 1 — Arrival & warm-up

  • Midday: Fly into Milwaukee, drive up to Kohler, check in at the American Club.
  • Afternoon: Warm up on Blackwolf Run (River Course) — Pete Dye’s wooded, river-laced championship test. A strong, scenic opener.
  • Evening: Dinner in the village; an early night before the big one.

Day 2 — The bucket-list round

  • Morning: The centerpiece: Whistling Straits (Straits Course) with caddies — two miles of Lake Michigan links, the Ryder Cup stage. Lean on your caddie; the wind and the bunkers are real.
  • Afternoon: The spa, or the practice range and a beer on the terrace.
  • Evening: The big group dinner.
  • Morning: Whistling Straits (Irish Course) — the inland sibling, dunes and streams, every bit as fun with a touch less punishment.
  • Afternoon: Relax, or sneak nine more.
  • Evening: Casual dinner in the village.

Day 4 — Finish & fly out

  • Morning: Close on Blackwolf Run (Meadow Valleys) before the drive back to Milwaukee.
  • Midday: Fly home — or, with more time, point the cars two hours west to Sand Valley for Mammoth Dunes, The Lido, and the inland-dunes half of a Wisconsin grand tour.

Why this works

It builds to the Straits with a warm-up first, gives you a second, friendlier links day, and keeps the walking load sane with caddies on the hardest round. For groups with a week, the Sand Valley extension turns a great trip into a Midwest pilgrimage.

The version we’d build for your group would lock the Straits tee time and caddies, sequence the rest, add Sand Valley if you want it, and put it all in one place your eight guys can see. Tell us about your trip and we’ll make it real.

Frequently asked

How many rounds can you play on a 4-day Kohler golf trip?
Four to six rounds is realistic across Kohler’s four courses — Whistling Straits (Straits and Irish) and Blackwolf Run (River and Meadow Valleys) — with the walking-and-caddie days pacing the trip. Add a fifth resort day or extend to a week to fold in Sand Valley.
What’s a good Wisconsin golf trip itinerary?
Base at Kohler: warm up on Blackwolf Run’s River Course, make the Straits Course (with caddies) your centerpiece, add the Irish Course for a second links day, and finish on Meadow Valleys. Groups with a full week then drive two hours to Sand Valley for Mammoth Dunes, The Lido, and more.
